ACV pushes for second runway at Long Thanh Airport
With these savings, ACV has proposed investing in a second runway at Long Thanh Airport during its first phase of construction.
According to ACV, building a second runway is essential to meet the rapidly increasing demand for air transport in southern Vietnam.
The proposal emphasizes that constructing the second runway during the initial phase would ensure uninterrupted operations, avoiding disruptions that could arise if additional construction occurs later. Moreover, having a second runway would enable Long Thanh Airport to support Tan Son Nhat Airport in case of emergencies.
With air transport demand in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces projected to reach approximately 71 million passengers by 2030, relying solely on one runway at Long Thanh Airport poses significant risks, such as overcapacity, flight delays, or even cancellations during operational disruptions.
Additionally, constructing the second runway in phase one would facilitate synchronized operations, eliminate interruptions caused by later infrastructure integration, and enhance efficiency while preventing waste.
